Young and/or Sinclair in Clackmannan
« on: Thursday 15 January 09 02:26 GMT (UK) »
Am looking for burial/death information for Young/Sinclair family.
Ann Sinclair born about 1811 in Clackmannan and believe died 1857 and buried in Clackmannan churchyard.
Her daughter Mary Sinclair or Young born about 1847 in Clackmannan.  She may have died young - after 1841.
Her son Andrew Young or Sinclair born about 1838 in Clackmannan - have lost track of him after 1851
Thanks for any info or direction.

The Clackmannan Parish burials index for 1842-1854 has Mary Sinclair, illegitimate daughter of Anne Sinclair (abode Clackmannan Parish - and not just Clackmannan), buried on 20 December 1843.

Thanks for the great information!  Do you know if Marys mother, Ann Sinclair (married name Young) born abt 1811 died abt 1857, is also buried there?  I have a reference that says she was buried in the Clackmannan Churchyard.  Also, what does the Clackmannan Parish consist of, are there more than one cemeteries?

Thanks, Joanne

Joanne,

No reference to Anne's burial, but the burials are only indexed for 1842 (when the register starts) to 1854, ie until civil registration of deaths began.

Clackmannan Parish included the villages of Sauchie, Fishcross, Kennet, Westfield and Forestmill, as well as Clackmannan itself, but I have not seen any reference to another churchyard/cemetery.  I would suspect that Mary's abode at the time of her death might not be specified in the register because she was an illegitimate child - but that is no more than speculation.

David.

I've had another lead and am wondering if there is a Margaret Sinclair Fotheringham buried in Clackmannan?  She would have died between 1841 and 1860.

thanks for all your help.
Joanne

Sorry Anne, but the only reference to a Fotheringham burial (1832-1854) in Clackmannan is a Marion, buried in 1834.

Regards,

David.

Thanks, David, for the information - every little bit helps.  Hopefully one day I can get back over there and do some more searching first hand!
