WWII Medal
« on: Friday 16 January 09 00:31 GMT (UK) »
According to our family history my uncle Hector Morgan was awarded a medal in WWII for stopping a riot amongst prisoners. This is all I have ever managed to hear , no time , place or anything else.How can I go further to find out if the story is true or has been fabricated in time[Just like a chinese whisper]. Regards Eirwen.

Easiest way would be to sight his service records. My first thought would be the MID (Mentioned in Despatches), Scrimnet is the 'expert' in this area.

I should add I did use the word in inverted commas and I assume you are aware of the derivation of the word 'expert'?

What? This mate??

Historically, an expert was referred to as a sage. The individual was usually a profound philosopher distinguished for wisdom and sound judgment.

My military service (at least from my lowly position) gave the derivation as thus:

"EX"       = an unknown quatity

'SPURT"  = a drip under pressure

Thankyou for your assistance . All I know is Hector Morgan was born Ogmore Vale in  South Wales 1916. He was in the army no idea what regiment and his wife's maiden name was Bowen or O'Reilly. Again sorry but all my information is very limited. Regards Eirwen.
