Conroy / ?Malerdy Strokestown
« on: Friday 16 January 09 22:34 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my in-laws. My husbands great-grandfather x 5 is Michael Joseph Conroy who married a Catherine Malerdy 1/12/1856 in Strokestown, Roscommon. They had ?5 children - Martin (b.1856 Ashbrook, Strokestown,  m. Rebecca Ainsworth in Leigh, Lancaster, England in 1898) / Peter (c/ John / Catherine / Bridget (b. 1872).

Looking for any more information on Michael J & Catherine incl parents, DOB, DOD, place of death etc.#

Thankyou

Hello and welcome to rootschat,

Is this Martin in 1901 - married to Rebecca with children Martin and Maurice?
If so he is 28 yrs old born 1873- which is different to your post.

Thanks heywood

Yes.  Martin & Rebecca are my great-great grandparents in-law.  They also went on to have James, John, Louisa, Martha, Leandra.  I have viewed the 1901 census.  I cannot confirm the accuracy of Martins DOB.

Any info greatly appreciated

It would make a difference to your getting records.
Civil birth registration began in 1864 in Ireland (non-Catholics were before that) and therefore if most of these children were born after that date you would be able to obtain their birth certificates.
Looking at Rebecca's age, it is more than likely that Martin would be 28 in 1901.
I am now looking through this site: http://www.leitrimroscommon.com/index.shtml
for clues.

You are very sure though re Michael and Catherine's marriage date? That is too early to get a certificate  :( again civil registration began 1864. You will need to see if there are Parish records.

Civil registration of all births in Ireland began in 1864 as did registration of deaths and Catholic marriages (registration of non-Catholic marriagesbegan 1845).

Thanks.  I received Martins DOB via a forum - hence I cannot confirm its accuracy.  I have a copy of the marriage registration of Martin & Rebecca so I know it was def 1898.  I have not got the actual certificate however.  Rebecca was born in 1877 in Bolton, Lancashire and have details of her parents but I am stuck with the Conroys.

Regards

I was going to check whether it was a submitted or extracted record but I can't even find it on LDS site (searching for Michael Conroy married in Ireland).

was just posting the same thing - I had already checked and looked again but no  ???

By the way, there are  Maleadys in 1901 Roscommon census - no Malerdy.
