Hi Alistair,

You'll see from earlier posts my wife's Swan link. The only data I presently have on "James" is as undernoted. You see that John had 2 sons both called "James" but the elder died young but typically they called a younger son "James" too. I have some earlier material should you wish it:

John (4) m. Janet Hislop (b 28 Jan’ & baptised 2 May 1764 in Liberton Kirk to George Hislop & Elizabeth Hewet) on 27 Dec 1793 at Liberton & had sons born in Liberton:
a)  George (5) b. 30 Oct & baptised 16 Nov 1794 in Liberton; d 8 Dec 1870 in 25 New St. Edinburgh.
b)  Francis b. 24 May & baptised 5 June 1796 in Liberton; m Marion Gordon on 16 Aug 1815 at Canongate when he was 19; d 17 July 1865 in Cockpen, Midlothian aged 69.
c)  John b. Stonehouse, Liberton on 2 Jan & baptised 14 Jan 1798;
d)  James b. 29 June 1800; m Jean Falconer on 9 Jan 1818 in Liberton.
e)  Walter b. 8 July 1803 in Liberton; m Catherine Gilchrist on 19 Feb 1830 at Liberton.
f ) James b.c. 1804 in Liberton; d. 23 Feb 1882 in Ednam, Roxburgh.
