Tithe Applotment Books
« on: Tuesday 20 January 09 09:48 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1838 for County Louth? If so, could you please see if there are any Boden (also spelt Bowden or Boaden) surnames in the Monasterboice area?

Thanks very much,
Simon

Or, if they are on ancestry.com, I have a contact with access to this web site.

Ancestry only includes the Tithe record indexes for the northern Counties - i.e. Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, and Tyrone.

All counties still exists as far I know - and they are available on microfilm at National Archives or the National Library in Dublin. I understand some can also be ordered at LDS centres.

a few Bodens from Pigots directory of 1824 - nothing in Monasterboice...but Athboy is not far that from that area - maybe 40km

Jas. Boden,  linen-draper, Athboy, Co. Meath
Thomas Bowden, Grocer, Dean-st, Kilkenny (city)
Jas. Bowden - Tallow Chandler, 106, Ann-street, Belfast
Hugh Bowden , esq. Portaferry, Co. Down (under Gentry & Clergy)
James Bowden - vintner , 8, George's-quay, Dublin
Mr. Bowden  professor, Dublin (no address given)

Thanks again Shane. I believe that Matthew Boden was the brother of my great-great-great-great-grandfather Patrick Boden. Evidence for Patrick comes in:

- 1796 flax growers list: Patrick Boadin of Drumshallon
- 1822 Freeholders list: Patrick Bouden of Kiltallaght

The townland of Kiltallaght is in the parish of Drumshallon in the barony of Ferrard, Co Louth.
