Great-Aunt returning to Canada
« on: Wednesday 21 January 09 13:41 GMT (UK) »
Great Aunt Ethel Maude Stamp (born 1885) returned to England for a visit from Canada on the Doric which arrived on the 4th July, 1927.

I cannot find her on FindMyPast leaving England to return to Canada after that date and wondered if some kind person would search for her arrival in Canada, please.

Peter

Hi Peter

There is an Ethel Stamp leaving Liverpool for Montreal on 27 August 1927. Aged 39. Ship - Calgaric.

Might this be her?

Hi Helena

Any chance of you checking the arrival of the one that I've found leaving Liverpool?

Hi Gadget,

i've been looking for that particular Ethel Stamp BUT am not having any luck finding anything on Ethel arriving in Montreal in 1927.  I thought maybe the record was transcribed incorrectly... I tried, Stampe, Ethel [no surname], Maud(e) [no surname] and I don't find anything at all. I'll keep looking and will let you know if I find her.

Gadget!

That looks a likely candidate, doesn't it? Why couldn't I find it?
She came to Leicester ((I think it says 46 Halsbury Street). I don't yet know where Harborough fits in.

Helena

Stamp is the surname from her second marriage. Before that she was McKeand and her maiden name was Pullon.

Hi Peter

Did you enter her middle name? I didn't  and I usually give as little info as possible and wide DoB and event ranges.

Did she have any friends or relatives in Market Harborough, maybe. It's just about 14 miles from Leicester so maybe the relatives were scattered.

I thought that I had tried to find her every which way...but obviously not.

1927 is just a bit before my time and there's no-one left alive who knew her.
One of her siblings was living in Northamptonshire a little later than that so I suppose it's possible it could have been them she was visiting.
