More on Ferres/Ferris
I have a copy of a page of a Bible belonging to John Ferres and his wife Mary Ross who were married at Larne in 1855. Children listed are Margaret born 1856, Robert 1858, Robert John 1861, William 1864, Anna 1866. Beneath this is mention of the marriage of Margaret Ferris to William Esler which took place 8th July 1876. Anna married Hugh Kirkpatrick.

Nat,

Thank you so much for your post.

I have the marriage of John and Mary on 25/1/1855 in Larne Non -Subscribing Presbyterian Church - and had managed to find 3 of their children, Margaret, William and Annie. So its great to learn of Robert and Robert John.

John died quite young on 13/1/1874 aged about 45and left his business - he was a grocer  - to his wife Mary she continued the business until her death on 30/5/1898 aged about 68. I have managed to get copies of their wills from the Public Record Office in Belfast.

I have the marriage of Margaret and William Esler/Eslar on 29/11/1878 at Larne 1st Presbyterian - They had at least two children, John and Martha, who both sadly died young. Margaret also died very young on 29/11/1878 aged 22.

Margaret and her children are on the family gravestone which you will have seen on the earlier post.

Isn't the Internet great - I see that you're in Rhodesia - allowing us to make all these world wide connections. Are you also related to this family?

Hi s,

The James F's  that I  know of are James born c 1823 (son of Charles) married to Margaret Millar. They had a son also James born mid 1800's. James had sisters Margaret who married Greenlees, Nancy/Agnes died 1879 aged 24, Mary married McCurdy and Eliza married Beggs died 1882 aged 21.

I haven't been able to find any other information about James jr - and only know of his existence because he erected a headstone for his Mother and sisters. Inscription of headstone is below.
____________________________________________________________________
Grave yard    Inver CI
Surname:   FERRIS
Inscription:   Erected by James Ferris in memory of his mother Margaret Ferris who died 28th August 1905 aged 84 years, also his sister Agnes who died 29th December 1879 aged 24 years, his sister Eliza Beggs who died 21st October 1882 aged 21 years
Other Information:   Marble Sarcophagus

Does this mean anything to you?
