William and Nellie McKERNIN - Victoria

Hi there...

Hoping someone can help...seeking info on Nellie Close b.12 Apr1905 in Belfast Northern Ireland, daughter of Robert Henry Close and Annie Agnes Boyd.  Nellie married a William McKernin, son of Henry McKernin.  Believe they immigrated about 1958 to the Melbourne area....any insight would be greatly appreciated.

They are not shown on the Australian National Archives which list most immigrants who came to Australia in the latter half of the C20 as assisted migrants

funny thing is....they are listed in the manifests on find my past ....and one of the neices I am in touch with mentioned them going to australia

You can also look up the phone listings on line.

You need to do a separate search for the surname for each state.  There are only 3 listings in Melbourne suburbs for the surname you are after so maybe a phone call or two.....

Perhaps they paid their own way. I tried the search using the family surname and "Close' as well.  Perhaps I missed it.

My gosh......

I sincerely thank you all for your help...this is my missing link in this family line....!  Hopefully with a few overseas calls/letters I'll be able to reach some of their descendants....again thank you so much!

Wendy I should have mentioned that the death certs will list their chn.  Perhaps you already have their names.

They were both cremated at the Springvale Cemetery

There are many of the immigrants not in the online index at the naa. It contains only a small percentage of the total records held. You can always email a query to the archives if you are interested in finding the immigration detail.  Given that you now have other sources, this is probably not so important
