In my world the index heading still says 1984-2005 - I guess something has to confuse

That's the GRO digitised index, Trish.  The full Ancestry search does find births 1916 to 2005.  I tested it with my half-brother, who was born in 1920 - I typed in his full name and year of birth - no other details.  Ancestry found him, top of the list of suggestions.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.

In my world - that's the heading  for the 1916 -2005 index when I call up my copy of Ancestry - it may be in the process of being changed, but I found the 1916-2005 index by going to the heading entitled Complete BMD Indexes 1984-2005. Since they decimated their home page, I always enter via my saved search pages or their main search page. When I select births it then has the heading 1916-2005.

I know full well that it finds the births from 1916 - I believe nothing implied by ancestry - I check it out  ;D

I think there are minor differences with the various international versions of Ancestry, Trish  :)   I usually use the UK site, athough I often go to the US site when I'm looking up relatives in the USA.  If you have international access, try the Chinese site ! It's very pretty !  ;D

I've just tried it and although it comes up with my marriage - I'm not "born"

I had a reasonably uncommon maiden surname and have even tried the wildcard search without success

My brother and sister's births are there and they were born a long time before me

I just put my christian name and birthyear and tried searches on both Merseyside and Lancashire but I haven't been "born" yet.  I was definitely born before 1960 but a long time after 1916

I have also tried a wildcard on just my christian name car**
