Ann. I have to go out now, but if you go to www.artus-familyhistory.com/source/Early%20Maps.html and click on Early Maps, you will see a map of Manchester link (1857)

Hi,

On the 1857 map the Eric has sent a link for click on the NE section.  Allum Street is off Great Ancoats Street (just below halfway down).  Look where the S is in Ancoats

Thank you Mo &  Eric,
That is very kind of you, now I hope I can get somewhere with the Taylor family.

Hi Ann,

I was having a look at the Historical Directories for the time and there was only that one Edward Taylor listed as a Hairdresser.  In the 1841 directory his address was 115 Great Ancoats Street - I believe Ancoats Lane was the old name for it.  1853 he was at 6 Al(l)um Street.  At the beginning of the directory it says Alum Street was off 121 Great Ancoats Street, so he only moved around the corner. He isn`t in the 1863 directory.

Oh,  Just realised that this is the Map look up  ::) - well I don`t think it will matter.

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo,
Thank you so much that is great helps, so it looks like you have found the right one, (yippee)
I have been looking at the map to see where the nearest Churches are.
I also looked at the Free BMD there are several Edward Taylor but no ages, and for Charlotte there are one or two.
Thinking about why James moved to Sheffield, may be one of his brothers was living there; I will have to see what I can find out.
You have made my brick wall begin to crumble.(:~> )
