Croix de Guerre Belgium
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 09:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have a relative - Serjeant William Growdridge 240008 1st/5th Bttn Leics Regiment, I have his MIC which shows he received the Croix de Guerre in Belgium. Can anyone throw any light on what he might have received it for? thanks

Hi
Allied troops were given a certain number of foreign awards so its likely that he got it for a brave deed instead of recieving a british medal..it may have been a joint attack or he saved some French soldiers?
The British Army also gave awards out to the allies.

Ady :)

Possibly related to whatever event killed him?
The CdeG is gazetted in April 1918, 3 months after his death.
