Albert Road, Bedford/Kempston?
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 11:19 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I have ''googled'' around and still don't know where ''Albert Road" is or if it still exists ... my gt grandad was there in 1891 as a servant to a family called CLARKE.

Do you mean Albert STREET, Bedford?  It's off Queen Street, and is still there, although somewhat truncated (it used to run through to Foster Hill Road).

On 1901censusonline address search, there was an Albert Road in Kempston

If you have the 1891 census details, you could look at the enumeration page and see where Albert Road was in relation to the other roads enumerated round it.

1891 Bedfordshire is fully transcribed on FreeCEN, and you can search on street address.

I'd hazard a guess that this is 14 Albert Street, Bedford St Peter, where Henry WORKER is assistant to Frederick Alfred Clarke.

You're probably right, as Cath has a picture of Sam Worker in her avatar  :)

I was just going by the original query, Albert Road and Kempston

Albert Street, or what is left of it is in the triangle formed by Tavistock St, Roff Avenue & Foster Hill.

The area was largely demolished in the late 50’s early 60’s to make way for social housing that included Queens Court, Cobden Square, Robinson House & Queens Street Multi-storey car park.

Interestingly the BLARS web site has a number of articles on Albert Street including I think photos of the street before demolition although they are difficult to makeout on line.
