Buckley Obituary
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 21:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Does anyone know of a local paper for the Buckley area.

I'm looking for an obituary that may have been published on or around February 21, 1957 for a John Holland Hughes.

He died in Liverpool but his obituary may have been published locally as his family seem to have had an association with a local church - Church of Emmanuel, Bistre, Buckley, Flintshire. Apparently a window on the south wall was dedicated to John Holland Hughes by his son.

Thank you for any assistance... :)

mab

Hello mab,
Do you know if he was buried in Liverpool or Bistre?

Paul.

I really don't know Paul.....I've just discovered his connection to the church today.

He was born in Buckley in 1872 and died in Liverpool in 1957 at the age of 85. It would be nice to think that his son buried him near where he was born.....early day's yet for me with this twig.

Do you know if Bistre and Buckley were interchangable in the early census returns ??? As you can see I'm a bit out of my depth in Flintshire  ::)

I think on census returns Buckley & Bistre are interchangeable :-\

I'll have a look at Bistre church (Emmanuel) parish records ;).

Paul.

Apparently it's a scene called "Escape from Egypt".

I also found a reference to his son's will which I don't think I'll pursue as it will probably involve living people.........I'll leave that for now I think  :-\

Thank you for your offer Shep.......I'd love to go with you but the commute is a bit much  ;D

Hello mab, the only newspaper In the archives with a 1957 edition covering Mold/Buckley is the Flintshire Observer. I couldn't see an Obituary for John Holland Hughes in it :(

I did get John & his siblings baptisms ;D If you don't have them I'll post them.

Paul.
