Guild of Tailors

I have a number of family members who's occupation was a tailor.
Can anyone tell me if there was a Guild of Tailors in England that perhaps these families were members.
I am looking at years between 1840 to the 1860's. Area's Cheshire, Sussex, Gloucester.

Hi, I am looking for a guild for tailors too, I found a site for master guilds in london, but have emailed them but not had a reply back yet.  The people I am looking for is Hawtin, who was in Thornbury, Gloucs, and their descendents moved to London, still working as Tailors.

The London City Guild is the Merchant Taylors' Company.  This is one of the few guild whose records are not at London Guildhall Library but still at their own Hall in Threadneedle Street.  The Guildhall Library does have microfilm of those records which you are most likely to require like apprentice bindings and Freemen lists.

While many of the Guilds covered the whole country you may find for trades like tailors the apprenticeships and thus the records were local to the parish or town where he was apprenticed and thus if they survive will be in the county record office or in a few cases in the local guildhall.

I think you have to pay. I have a tailor ancestor from East Yorkshire but think I've traced him and his family to London - at least for a while, but sadly I couldn't find him on their index. Hopefully, you might have better luck.
