BOWEN FAMILY BIRTHS/DEATHS/CENSUS

My grandmother was born in Penarth, Glamorgan, Wales.  Her name was Margaret Ellen Bowen, born 25 Feb 1877.  She was the daughter of Owen Bowen, approx DOB 1843 in Cardiganshire, Wales and Catherine Bowen, approx DOB 1842 Kilgerran ?, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  Her brothers were Jack, approx DOB 1873, Griffith M Bowen DOB approx 1880 and Tom Bowen, DOB approx 1871.  Here sister was Elizabeth Ann Bowen, approx DOB 1875.  Elizabeth married Thomas Jones and they had three children, Mary M, Evelyn and John T.  She and her siblings with the exception of Tom were born in Penarth, Glamorgan, Wales.  Tom was born in Cardiff.

  My grandmother immigrated to US in 1909 after marrying my grandfather, but her family never left Wales.   I was able to locate them in the 1881 and 1901 census, but nothing else.  Any suggestions?  I may have family in Wales that I don't even know about.  I would like to find more info on her family..census, correct DOB AND DOD's, etc.

  One last thing...I know she had a cousin names Winifred Stockdale who would come to the US to visit.

  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is very useful to you, but the family are still at Penarth in 1891, Owen now remarried to a Selina? (first name not very clear). The census reference is RG12/4402 102 82.
(marriage Owen Bowen - Sel*ana Vaggers Sep 1890 Cardiff 11a 474)

Back in 1871, Owen and Catherine are already at Penarth, with 5 months old son Thomas
RG10/5368 18 30

Shout if you need a transcription of the details.

The most likely first marriage I see is Jun 1868 Cardigan 11b 27
Owen Bowen to possibly Cathrine Mason
(added: and there is a Catherine Mason born 1838 Kilgerran on previous censuses)

  There is a Winifred Maria A Stockdale born in Cardiff in March 1884.
                   Winifred Stockdale born June 1921 in Cardiff
 
   Was your grandmothers cousin married?

  First, I cannot find them on the 1891 Census myself..what am I  missing?

  Second, Winifred is actually listed as niece.  Her DOB is approximately 1884.  That is all I know about her

I don't know which site you are using - they might be mistranscribed. Does the site allow you to just type in the census reference, not completing any other fields? Else they might jump at you if you search in Penarth for a Griffith born Penarth 1880.

 

In 1901 Owen is very badly mistranscribed on the ressource I use. Reference is RG13/4989 43 15

Rose Hannah was born in Cowbridge  1880  in the 1901 census lived in Penarth.

Griffith Milton Bowen married Ms Warwick in Wantage Oxfordshire in December 1926 ( Free BMD)

There is an Alphabetical index of  a Memorial Inscription for  All`s Saints
Church in Chilton in Oxfordshire

Griffith Milton Bowen aged 85 in 1991, would have been born 1906
