1.7mb is not a particularly large file, so it is probably just input data (text) and not images.
Find someone who has FTM-2009 because that will have backward compatibility for all previous versions.

Hi David,
While going through some of my download sites I found the following free trial which opens .ftw files. I opened one which I couldn't before as the file was a newer version than the FTW 2005 free software I got with a newspaper. May be worth a go. If not then you can always delete the software.

as free trial it keeps the details, but doesn't export. Many features are disabled but if you only want to view the details it may be sufficient to raid the tree. personally I don't like it but if it opens the tree

Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic
Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.
