WOOD
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 23:27 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find more information on my great grandfather John Frederick Wood born abt 1896.  He married Edith Holt in 1919 at Stockport, he was listed as 23 and his father Frederick Wood, commerical traveller.  He was listed as living at 107 Aswood Lane West.

I've found him on the 1911 census living at the same address but only with his mother Elizabeth wood aged 43, Widow, former hat trimmer and her other son Herbert Wood aged 14.  Both John and Herbert were listed as being born in Sheffield (although I'm having trouble finding their birth certs) and Elizabeth born in Furness Vale... I think her maiden name may have been 'penny'

I'm also having trouble finding a death cert for Frederick Wood, but know he had died by the time the 1911 census came about.  Also not managed to find a marrage for Fred and Liz yet.

Any help or advise on where I go from here, would be really appreciated...

firstly, don't duplicate.

then look at your OTHER posting and see what 1901 reveals...

Hi thanks for the response, yes I had this as one of my options originally but the address was 20, rather than 107... so had to pay to check the 1911 where they were living at the exact address as the marriage cert of 107 Adswood Lane West.  But yes same family.

My brick wall is finding the correct birth/death certs for John F Wood and Frederick.  Any suggestions??

Hi

Yes thanks, what a quick response, really appreciated!

The 1911 states that Elizabeth is a widow, so i'm tipping this could be the reason Frederick isnt around in 1901. Could be other reasons too I suppose... as he is stated as a commerical traveller on John's marriage cert in 1919 (but doesnt say deceased? Is this normal?)

I think this is the correct family as in 1911 the address is exactly the same as in 1919 marriage cert.  Do you think the 1901 census has the no wrong (ie no 20 instead of 107?) either way both are living in the same street?

I have found a few deaths in Sheffield dated 1910 is there anyway other than ordering the certs to find out?

Somebody on genes/Ancestry has suggested emailing the registry office giving details? Has anyone tried this?
