Thanks Pauline

This message has been posted on 3 different board which only causes confusion and duplicated efforts.

As the family were living in Cheshire in 1911 and at the time of John's marriage in 1919 - it would seem sensible to ask the moderator to merge the other replies with the Cheshire post and close the Lancashire and Yorkshire topics to prevent any further duplication

Hi Rebecca,

Just found a birth for a John Frederick in Rotherham but note that you now have these details on the other thread.

I believe it is not uncommon for the father to sometimes not be noted as deceased on a marriage certificate - I have a few examples.

You mentioned that Elizabeth's surname may be Penny. I don't know where you got that from, but I found this birth:
Births Mar 1865
Penny Elizabeth
Hayfield
7b 643

Elizabeth said she was born in Furness Vale, Derbyshire (which is between New Mills and Whalley Bridge). The Hayfield registration district covers Mew Mills and Whalley Bridge.

Wonder if this might be her?  ;)

Margaret wife 35 b Po??(cannot read the rest, but transcribed as Portsmouth??!)
Sarah daur 15 cotton weaver b Stockport

[I know there is a Furness in Cheshire but this may be an enumerator error and meant to be Furness in Derbyshire, since other two chidlren are born Derbyshire]

Also found this possible marriage in Mar 1855:
Margaret Meah and Daniel Penney on same page
Stockport 8a 29

I don't think we should be too hard on Rebecca for posting the same/similar question on several boards. She IS new to Rootschat and we don't want to scare her away by giving her a hard time!  ;D

It can be difficult to know where to post a query if a family moves around the country. I did the duplicate posting thing when I was new too.

Earlier I had a quick look for the Penn(e)y family on the 1841 census but had to leave it to go out. If you think this may be the correct family I will have a closer look for them.  ;)

Hi Rebecca,

Yes - Ruskie is right - it can be confusing working out where is the best place to post when a family is on the move.  It is easily got round by posting a detailed query on just one board and then posting a link to the main query on other county boards, where the family could have been.

I was guilty of making the same duplication mistake in my earlier RC days.
