Elizabeth Robb - dilemma
« on: Saturday 31 January 09 12:13 GMT (UK) »

I have a bit of a problem!  ???

I have conflicting parental information for my Elizabeth Robb

On her Scottish, marriage cert I have parents: John Robb Furniture dealer and Jane Robb m.s. Gray
On her Australian, death cert: Joseph Robb Jeweller and mother Jane Gold Grey

The Joseph makes sense, as Elisabeths second son was Joseph Robb Pratt' and her 1st daughter was Elizabeth Jane.

Possability for 1841 census:

Mill Street, Montrose

Joseph ROBB   20    Flax Dresser    Angus
 Jean ROBB    20
 Elizabeth ROBB 8m

Can they be found on the '51, '61 etc.

Elizabeth married Robert Pratt in 1862 in Dundee.

I think I have the family on the IGI and Joseph's death at 80 Cowgate Dundee, in 1868. Elizabeth was living at Cowgate at time of marriage. I can't see where I have a death for Jane Gray.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Not sure - would normally mean a re-marriage (and two surnames) but you would have to view it to see what's on it.

You have father Joseph dieing in 1868?

Don't understand these dates for a potential second marriage for Jane then  :-\ From IGI:

Yes, you're correct. I have the death cert for her and she remarried to a George Bell who appears to be her husbands business partner.

Now and oddity: This explains my unexplained George Bell in my family tree. However, Elizabeth's father Joseph was alive at time of her marriage and depature for Oz. So, why would she name a child after her mother's second husband, whom she would not have met?

Well she would have known him if he was her father's business partner!

Is this an entry for Elizabeth's father on SP's Wills & Testaments I wonder:

Joseph Robb, 14/04/1869, Pawnbroker* at Cowgate of Dundee, Dundee Sheriff Court   SC45/31/22

May explain the 'jeweler' reference?
