I Can't find any "Bag Row" in 1841 street index.
Wondered if it could be an abbreviated Battery Row?

Hi,

Found here,

http://www.archive.org/stream/theblackbook02soutuoft/theblackbook02soutuoft_djvu.txt

'Cemetery of St. Mary's. The position of the cemetery appears pretty clearly from the map of 1791. Bag Row is here marked as running north from East Street and west of the Church of St. Mary, and then becoming merged in Love Lane. Both Love Lane and Bag Row seem to have been on the site of what is now St. Mary Street. Hoglands lay west of Bag Row at Its northern end, and thus, if the cemetery was opposite to a plot of ground bounded by Hoglandi ditch, it must have been almost entirely on the north side of the church.'

Franckie75,

Do you know any more about Henry Bloomfield? I would be especially interested to find out where his mother Jane came from. I am in touch with a descendant of his in France. Any information would be great.

Many thanks

There were Broomfield family in the New Forest. Jane could have been from one of them.
Would you have an approximate date of birth for her?

Jane Bloomfield, spinster, died on 26th October 1846 aged 49 according to her death certificate, which gives a birth date around 1797.

Please note that the Jane and her son Henry who I am looking for are called Bloomfield with an 'l', not Broomfield with an 'r'. This is the illegitimate Henry who was baptised in 1818 when his mother Jane was living in Bag Row in Southampton.

Thank you for your interest.
