Death look up - Wills.
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 01:57 GMT (UK) »
Can someone help please with details of the death of Martha Wills between 1881 and 1891?  She was born about 1852 and is on all census's, the last one 1881.

She was living in Grantham with her husband Thomas Wills and children Minnie and Sarah.

In 1891 Thomas is listed as widower with children Minnie, Sarah, Thomas, Charles and Richard.  Richard is listed as 8 years old so Martha must have died sometime after his birth.

Hoping a kind chatter can find this one.

Kind regards,
Dot.

Nearest one I can find is a Martha WELLS, buried at St Catherine's Church, Nottingham on 1st April 1889, aged 37.

Thanks Rover, that could be the one I'm after although the surname is Wells.  Easy enough to mistake Wills for Wells.
The location - Nottingham - is a mystery as her husband and children are still in Grantham in 1891.
So maybe I shall have to keep digging.
Thanks for your interest,
Cheers,
Dot

Do you know for certain that Thomas and Martha were married?  I've seen unmarried "wives" buried using their maiden name.

The Nottingham Martha WELLS probably appears in 1881 aged 29 as wife of James, living in Nottingham.
Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Hi, Geoff,

Yes, they definitely were married,  I have a copy of their marriage certificate, dated 11th November, 1873.

So, it is 'back to the drawing board' as they say.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Dot

Hi Dot,

Can you tell me where Thomas and Martha were living in 1881 and were they living at the same address in 1891?.
It might make it easier to find the parish records of Marthas death and buriel records.I will check in Grantham library and see what I can find.

Hi Geoff

Thanks it looks as if St Wulframs or St Johns are the most likely ones to look at.
