Western Zoyland
« on: Tuesday 03 February 09 16:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi All, I would like to beg a little help from anyone who has the Western Zoyland Parish Registers.

I have 2 mystery ladies, and although I know it is possibly that they were just living
there 'in service' when they wed, I would be glad if someone could check for me.

1, Ann Perry, born circa 1725, who wed Richard Lovibond at Western Zoyland on
19 March 1749.

2, Rosina Rose Perry, born circa 1849, who wed Oliver Bown at Western Zoyland on
18 September 1882.

If they were born in that area, I am hoping that some kind person might tell me when, and who were their parents

Thanks so very much,
Chainsaw.

The census records have Rose born in Weston Zoyland c1848, but can't see anything in FreeBMD for her, other than the marriage in 1882. Looks like she was living with Oliver as husband and wife before that as they are together in 1871 in Middlezoy.

1851
Lukewall, Weston Zoyland
James PERRY, head mar 37, Farm labour, born Somerset, Weston Zoyland
Charlotte PERRY, wife mar 37, ditto wife, born ditto
Edwin PERRY, son unm 14, Ag lab, born ditto
James PERRY, son 12, Scholar, born ditto
Emma PERRY, dau 11, Scholar, born ditto
Jane PERRY, dau 7, Scholar, born ditto
Rosena PERRY, dau 4, Scholar, born ditto
next page
Selina PERRY, dau 1, born ditto
HO107/1924/F492/P23

Still at same place in 1861, but with two more children Jessy, son aged 9 and Vincent aged 7, both born Weston Zoyland. Rosenna is 14.

She is consistent with her birthplace and age in 1871 to 1901 and there are no other Rosena PERRYs born in Weston Zoyland at that time, so would be fairly certain the above family is hers.

Rosena PERREY birth Mar qtr 1847, Bridgwater, 10 36_. Last number not readable. Bridgwater RD covers Westonzoyland.

Her siblings births are under both PERRY and PERREY.

Thanks Eyesee, That's a great help, one more part of the puzzle slips into place.

Now, if only there was some clue to help with Ann.

regards, Chainsaw.

HI!

I realise that this is an old post, but I have only just discovered that the Ann Perry you mention is my 6x g grandmother. The strange thing is I've been living in Westonzoyland for 20 years and did not realise I had any ancestors from the village!!

Ann Perry was baptised in Westonzoyland on 27 Nov 1719.However, I have still to track her parents.

Have you had any success since this posting?

Yours is the first and only reply.

You could try this family group;-

Richard Perry, born 1693 Weston Zoyland. Wed 25 Nov 1718 Weston Zoyland to
Ellen Atyoe, born 1697 WZ.
Children were as follows;-
Ann, 1719, Alice, 1721, Hannah, 1723, Elizabeth, 1725, Priscilla, 1728, All West Zoyland.

or phone me on 01362 688 510 anytime for more details, ask for Tim.

Hi,

I'm also descended from Richard Lovibond and Ann Perry - probably.  The link a couple of generations later is not 100% confirmed Their daughter Anne married Joseph Chard and I think my ancestor Sophia Chard was probably their daughter, baptised at Ilton as "Cefiah".

I haven't looked for Ann's birth, being not completely sure she's an ancestor and Perry being such a common name, but Ann d. Richard and Ellen/Elinor Perry certainly fits well.

Incidentally, the online transcription has Richard and Ann's wedding on 19 Mar 1744/45, not 1749.

HI!

Many thanks! I will investigate further....Atyeo is still a common name here.....and will let you know if anything else turns up.!

Perhaps a trip around the churchyard is called for?!

It would be great to confirm the line back to the Battle of Sedgemoor-1685-wouldn't it? My garden is part of the battlefield site!
