Richard

Samuel Rogers Strover and Mary Ann Strover were second cousins. I am a descendant of her sister, Jane Maria Strover, born Devonport c1805.  I personally don't know a lot about the descendants of Samuel Rogers Strover, but two of my Strover contacts via GenesReunited are also descendants of Thomas Rogers Strover via another of his sons, Herbert Charles Strover, born 1851 in India.  I don't know whether you are a member of GR, but, if you are, you could get access to their trees and other information.

As I said before, we have recently been able to exchange quite a lot of information, some of it conflicting about the earlier Strovers.  It is going to take a little time to digest!

Thank your for your suggestion of the British Museum, definitely something I will take up if my other contact doesn't produce the transcripts.  I have found out that the Essex was caught up in a terrible storm in 1782 when she lost her masts and the guns had to be thrown overboard to save the ship.  This incident was recorded in 4 paintings made into prints and copies of these can be bought from the National Maritime Museum.

Hi, do you mind if I join this thread which I also have found interesting.  Samuel Rogers Strover was my 4x great grandfather by his first marriage.  Their son, Samuel Crawford Strover married Sarah Jamieson and they had a daughter, Evelyn Strover who was my gg grandmother.  Her marriage to George Humphreys threw me for some time as her name was recorded at Stoner and not Strover on the Latter Day Saints site.  However, finding the mistake has opened a whole new side of the family tree which I have yet to look into.

Hi John

My wife is a descendant of the marriage between Samuel Rogers STROVER and Mary Ann STROVER (believed to be his cousin); their son Thomas Rogers STROVER; their grandson Frederick Reginald STROVER and their great grandaughter Florence Mabel STROVER - my wife's paternal grandmother.

We would be very interested in any more information that you may have on this line of the family and in particular Florence Mabel who we understand to have disappeared shortly after my wife's father was born in 1910.

Richard

HELLO

My maternal grandmother was Florence Mabel Strover in Australia.  Have you already received further info?

Hi suzieaustralia,
If you are still active on RootsChat now, I am also in Australia (NSW though) and a descendant of Samuel Rogers Strover through his daughter Harriet Strover, my great x4 grandmother, who married Rev. Canon Dr. Thomas Gorges Henry Mervyn D'Arcy Irvine (Say that five times). I am a bit lost with the Strovers, and this forum chat seems very helpful if I can revive the conversation.
Thanks,
Caleb
