sticky stuff!
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 16:21 GMT (UK) »
Help....I have inherited some photograph albums from my Nan and she has used sello tape   ::) to stick several small photos together.

What is the best way to separate them and store them?   ???

Thanks

Try one on here Malky, it's possible the pieces can be seperated and replaced in the proper order,.

Hi Malky,

As Bill says, probably best to do it digitally, rather than attempting removal of the sticky tape.

To give you an example of the problems....I spent all day at work yesterday trying to remove old sticky tape off a magazine.  It is at the stage where it's gone yellow, and passed the gooey stage, but it hasn't started to fall off yet.  I tried 15 different solvents and various other techniques and that tape is not budging!
If you try to peel the tape off it's likely to take a layer of photo with it, so to separate the photos from each other you could take a craft knife and slit the tape where the two photos meet, but leave the tape in place.

Hope that helps.
Cheers
Prue

Cheers Prue thats a great help.  Maybe I should just try scanning all the images together and then get some photo wiz kid, (if I can find one!), to do the rest for me.

Thanks anyway

Why not post the scans here on the PHoto Restoration board?  I'm sure you'll get lots of willing helpers who will clean them up for you!
