Just checked my copy of Bartholomews Reference Atlas to Greater London printed in 1940 and it's not listed there.

It may be off another road or street but is too small to be named on maps.

Hi

I have had similar experiences when searching for a London address. It could have been a row of houses along a main street or a side street. Finding the exact location of a London property can be tricky especially if it is a small court or yard or a row of houses on a main road.

Could it be a transcription error?....I tried a place search on the 1911 Census site and there were no results.

Morning ShaunJ, Since the census form was completed in my grandfather's own hand, in a way that indicate literacy, I'm pretty sure it's not a transcription error. Thank you too for your guidance on how to see my former posts.

Hi
Looking at that area on the 1891 index, the nearest is this :

Margaret Place  -  Newington.   Parish of St Andrew.  351/page 1 42 +

Next Street Dover Street.

Enumerator's notes say the area covered by the boundary
of Lawson Street on the East and Tabard Street on the South?

Abie,

I wasn't sure if you were looking at a transcription or the original image! If you post the name of your grandfather (or the head of the household, if different) we can check contemporary court directories and see if there are any clues there as to the location.

Hi

I have checked my The A to Z of Victorian London and couldnt find Margarve Place there. I wonder if it is a transcription error. The above mentioned book shows London in 1888.
