Hi Sonoftherock

This is a long shot but do you have a Jane Rainey (1854 - 1887) who married James Alexander in 1874 in Ballymoney?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mad Jockette,
I have had a look for your Jane Rainey/James Alexander with no success. The nearest I could find was James Alexander to Jane LEANEY on 20 Aug 1872 in Ballymoney Church of Ireland.

Hi Sonoftherock and Kingkerswell

Thank you for your responses.
It is definately Rainey. the search goes on. I have a bit of info for the Alexanders, but nothing for Jane Rainey.

Many thanks

Can't see a marriage for James Alexander to a Jane Rainey either but wouldn't rule out the Alexander-Leaney one yet.
I did find 3 children listed in IGI:
1. Henry born 17 Mar.1875 Co.Antrim
2. William John born 20 Oct.1876 'Antrim, Ballymoney, Cork, Ireland' (Cork des not belong in the record but LDS have a large batch with Cork in it)
3. Sarah Jane born 6 Feb.1879 Drumaheglis (a townland west of Ballymoney along the River Bann).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Have also found these children and the mother is listed as Jane Rainey. Have used the new LDS pilot site for the whole of the UK and cannot match a Rainey marriage to a Alexander marriage.

I tried both LDS Pilot site and Emerald Ancestors index and couldn't find a match.

Hi Aghadowey

I won't discount the Alexander / Leaney marriage, they could well be related somewhere in the tree.
The info I have for James Alexander and Jane Rainey is she was born around 1854, married James Alexander 1874 and died around 1887(aged 33years) having had 8 children. James Alexander then married Jane Mulholland in 1888 they appear then to have moved to Scotland and had two children.

I can't find any info as to the parents of Jane Rainey. I had found through some death certificate that Jane Mulhollands parents were Willian Hugh (or Hugh William ) Mulholland and Rachel??

The children you mention for Alexander /Leaney match the info I have for William John and Sarah Jane. Could I be so bold as to mention that maybe there was a typographical error. Future generations have the name Rainey ( Rennieall variations along the lines) as middle names.

This is just another conundrum to keep me busy.

Thank you again for your information.

Mandy

First of all, I have split this from Rainey deaths thread and renamed it since so much has been added to it.
Next, the IGI births I found are for children of James Alexander and Jane Rainey not Leaney.
Can't see a marriage for James Alexander-Jane Rainey but when I said not to rule out the one in 1872 to a Jane Leney I meant that it could be the right couple with her surname being  misread in the marriage record (some are difficult to read).
