Have you tried a parent search on the IGI

PARENT SEARCH ON IGI

www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on  “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button

Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu

Input fathers name and surname BUT only put mothers christian name as not all entries have the maiden name

REGION – select British Isles from the menu

COUNTRY – select one or “All countries”

COUNTY (will appear when you select COUNTRY)  – select whichever matches what you know about the family

Click SEARCH

Thanks Carol for the IGI seach tips, it didn;t turn up anything on Perter or his father Thomas but did give me a DOB on one of my G Grandmothers
My Peter Hughes was living in Swansea by 1851 so the 1851 Bagillt Peter is not mine

Alan are you absolutely sure that the 1816 Baptism for Peter is the correct one?

Hi
I have no reason to doubt it, as I said earlier a fella named Paul looked it up for me a few months back. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,343101.msg2225986.html#msg2225986

This is the 1851 census for Swansea you refer to above

Peter Hughes 36 copper borer b Greenfield Flintshire
Mary 34 b Merthyr - Glamorgan
Ann 7 b Greenfield
Robert 5 b Greenfield
William 1 b Glamorgan
HO107; Piece: 2464; Folio: 690; Page: 32

Purely as an observation - if this is the couple who married in 1837, they are not on the 1841 census and I would have expected to see older children than Ann

There is an IGI entry for an Ann Hughes b 1843 Holywell parents Peter and Mary but she died in 1845

Thanks for taking an interest Carole, it;s helping me get thing straight in my mind LOL

The reason I originally thought Peter and Mary Ann were married in Holywell in1837 was the record on FreeBMD

http://www.rootschat.com/links/05jo/

Then Paul found the parish record which appears to confirm the other record

Hi

I am assuming you got Mary Ann's maiden name from one of their children's birth certs hence matching the marriage
