Catherine Regan married John Richford 21 Sept 1863.

Why is the marriage putting you off?! It's as it should be if Thomas was born the following year?

The birth date for this Thomas is spot on! Where did you get the date of 16 Oct 1864?

The only confusion on my part, is "when did Thomas become a Lang"? Was Catherine widowed, then marry a Lang, perhaps??

Otherwise, yes, everything else matches up.

The DOB for Thomas shows up on the 1901 Canada Census, and my family had some sort of record of it, as he died in Montreal, in 1932. Someone 'must have' had some of his effects, but that's all they had to go on.

No idea what has happened to parents  Can't easily see a death for them as yet. I'm trying to follow through this Thomas on the censuses...if he is in Scotland in 1891, he's not our man. This is v. likely him in 1881:

Patrick Regan 32, head, grocer, b. Ireland
Thomas Rochford 17, grocer, boarder, b. Edinburgh

Address: Canongate, Edinburgh Iron Church

Thomas should NOT show up in the 1891 Census, if we are on the right track. Thomas came to Canada in 1884, and was married 'here' two years later.

No sign of him in 1891  Checked on Ancestry and Scotlands People for a Thomas R*chford +/- 2yrs round his birth year...looking promising!

I also found a couple of more children to John and Catherine:

1. JAMES RICHFORD Birth: 28 MAR 1870 Edinburgh
2. CATHERINE RICHFORD  Birth: 07 AUG 1872 Edinburgh

One other, with mother showing as Catherine Ryan (wondering whether surname mistranscribed?):

PATRICK RICHFORD  Birth: 31 MAR 1874 Edinburgh
