Hi

Yes, I do have Eliza's BC. It's at home right now, so I'll post the info tonight.

Just emailed the N.Tawton opc to see if she can find any info.

It's possible that Benjamin and Caroline married in N. Tawton?

Thanks for the info re the other Benjamins.

I think you mean Catherine is BENJAMIN's younger sister. Was the James from Catherine in 1854 named after her father, possibly James+Esther?

James and Esther have a daughter Julia inthe 1841 (aged 23)
James is 61, Esther 64.

As you can see ... this one is hard to pan out. Benjamin's born
1816 + or - 10 years are very very scarce countrywide!

Regards

No, I mean that the Catherine Scantlebury mother of Jessie bp 6/3/1859 & John Henry bp 5/3/1854 (same day as James Crabb) is the younger sister of John Scantlebury, head of household on the 1851 census above.

Catherine Crabb is married according to the 1851 census, but probably not to the father of Lucy & James.

I wouldnt totally discount that Caroline and Catherine are one and the same .The 1841 states Caroline is 25 ages are rounded down so shes possibly 25-30.In 1851 Catherine is 39.Caroline in 1841 states born in Devon and in 1851 Catherine is born Plymouth,Devon. And Eliza is with her in 1841 and 1851.And i cant find a death of a Caroline Crabb between 1841-1843 ?

Or another possibility Catherine is Benjamins  second wife and marriage is Qtr Dec 1843 Bodmin ,Benjamin Crabb to Catherine Smith as youve found.

Cant find a death of Benjamin Crabb?

There is a death in Qtr Jan1854 Catherine Crabb in Bodmin

In 1861 cant find Lucy Crabb but there is a L.C. female age 10 years born Bodmin in The Union Workhouse this would make sense if Catherine and Benjamin had died.As for the middle name Scantlebury it might be that Benjamin has died and  John is the Father or merely just a relation of Catherines and Benjamin is the Father and the name just passed down?.Ive learnt never to discount anything when researching or jump to conclusions.

Think the only way to solve this is to purchase  Lucys birth cert.If you have Elizas birth cert it should give Carolines maiden name?

Good Luck

Hi Thanks WL,

Sort of the lines of my thinking ... I'll post more when I have the extra info.

And Carole, I wasn't sure if Barney was from smoke lines or not ...

My older ones are on http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~rpf1/cats.html

The meow button goes to more pics! Including a lovely smoke! All now sadly passed on.

The tortie carrier passed away 2 years ago aged 21.

Rob

Just to complicate matters!!

1871 Lucy Crabb aged 21 born Bodmin is a servant for a family with the surname Hugo(?) at 17 Lower Bore Street, Bodmin.

Next door – or opposite - at 18 Lower Bore Street is Thomas Scantlebury (age 64 born Bodmin), his wife Ann and their nephew Joseph Sandercock(?).

There must be easier look-ups to research!!!!!!!

Hi Folks,

Just to clarify the 1851 census. The name is certainly Catherine not Caroline. My copy is not good, but the only thing I cannot be certain of is Catherines age  (29 or 39)

Hi Kris,

My copy is good, and she is deffo 29 years old in 1851.

I have also located the next census page (coz my lot are at the bottom), but the next person is a new household record Lewis Williams, head, W, 83. So no-one else.

I find that if you alter the "key" number in the URL address in your browser you can access the next or previous pages easily. Sometimes you need to advance more than 1 at a time. Invaluable if you have records spanning a census page and you don't know the names of those who may be overpage! A useful tip fo rthose not in the know ... of course, take note and care of the page numbers on the images ... but it does work out ...

Yes Ivan, I have seen some entries for Lucy ... in fact you can go further, and it looks like she didn't marry, but was always in service.

I agree, not the easiest one to follow through.

I have a Thomas Scantelbury 1806 Cornwall in my tree and also John Scantlebury 1833 in Falmouth. Are there any connections to my tree on this thread ?

Many thanks

Hi Graham,

It's possible if Catherine Crabb (29) in 1851 who's living with John Scantlebury is related.

Also, maybe Lucy Scantlebury Crabb is related ... once I have more details I can see if I need
to follow up the Scantlebury lines.
