That would make sense why she didn't list her biological father on her wedding registration, but that of her former father-in -law George Roberts. This is worth looking into!

Don't you think it could simply be a matter of the priest (or whoever) asking what's your father's name and occupation, and her answering George, Mason and he mistakingly concluding George Roberts?

It seems to me that the 1871 census clinches it, with the parents in law in the household. Elizabeth Jennison is exactly the same age as the Elizabeth Clayton on previous censuses ...

Seems they weren't officially married until 1879 though (and poor Frank dies less than a year later):
Dec 1879 Leeds 9b 743
Elizabeth Clayton - Francis Jennison

This site is awesome! Thank you to all. and to Tati for the latest info taking me back to 1841 census records!

I have lots to fit together and tie up loose ends. I can't thank you all enough.

Would anyone have any idea if any of these residences still exist? Unfortunately I was in England about 14 yrs ago and actually as a tourist went to Leeds Castle. Of course my interest in genealogy being peaked I started my search on  my return to Canada regarding English ancestors, prior all my investigations were in Canada. . Oh the chances I missed to visit cemeteries and residences.  I'll have to come back!

Sorry, no idea about the last bit - no doubt someone local will be able to help  :)

Have a look at the IGI on www.familysearch.org, you'll find George's christening (as his siblings') showing his father's name.

Also christenings for Betsey Jackson and 2 siblings in Scarborough, and a likely marriage for Christopher Jackson to Elizabeth in 1822

Tati

I need some help sorting info now.......

Elizabeth Jennison is the listed grandmother of the Roberts children (William Roberts and Ellen Clayton). And she is listed as a joiner's widow.

But you have Elizabeth Clayton marrying Francis Jennison in 1879. Is this MY Ellen Eliza Clayton who married Roberts and Darbyshire?

Then there's Christopher jackson (joiner) with wife Elizabeth (she would be the joiner's widow?, but she's a Jackson not a Jennison) ?

Where does the Hannah clayton and children fit in?

Thanks

I jumped the gun...... pays to look up some stuff first!

Betsy Jackson married George Hart Clayton in Sep Qtr 1845 in Scarborough.

George must die before 1871

Elizabeth and Frank Jennison are listed as in-laws on the 1871 census living with William Roberts and family (wife Ellen eliza Clayton).

So it's Elizabeth Clayton (Jackson) marries Francis Jennison who dies Sep Qtr 1880 Leeds

MY Ellen Eliza Clayton who married William Darbyshire was the dtr of George
Hart Clayton and Elizabeth Jackson!

WOW

Take your time to sort it all out  :D

George Clayton deserts Eliza and goes to live in Kent with a lady called Mary (see my reply number 3) He dies in Medway registration district in 1868.
Let me know if you want the 1871 census for Mary, showing Mary with 2 more children (who we can presume are your Ellen Eliza's half siblings)

 :)
