Helen,

Jen dug up that marriage for John Arrowsmith/Margaret Noble in 1883 ( Newcastle RO site has this marriage taking place at St John the Baptist's parish church in Newcastle.

Jen also found a household on Census 1901 to match this couple.

On Census 1891  8 years after this marriage this couple were at

Page ref 4194-126-7
21 Railway St, Elswick *
John 32 Cartman
Margaret 29
James 7
William 6
Susannah 3
Ellen 1

 (* Elswick was one of the four "townships" that made up the parish of St John's)

All called Arrowsmith, all born Newcastle, except William, born South Shields in Co Durham.

(Looking at their ages over the two censuses it shows a good degree of accuracy)
~~~~~~~~---------
Going back through the censuses I cannot see a suitable candidate for this John Arrowsmith.      There was one, son of a James/Elizabeth Arrowsmith, born Newcastle 1859/60. But this John became an Iron Moulder and is with his wife Norwich-born Kate in Elswick on C1901 ( 4774-117-21)
~~~~~~~~---

Do you know the name of Margaret Noble's father ( and/or Mother ) ?

Helen, you said your were certain of your info on the Arrowsmith family. Is this info from your "oral history" or from officially documented info such as BMD certificates, censuses, etc ?

PS.. I also looked for suitable William, William John, John William, Arrowsmiths, but without success.

Thank you for all of this, I have come across the same problem with trying to trace John which was why I thought William was a possibility, but none of my research brought up a William that really fit either.

The information I have been given is from my grandmother, she is the daughter of John and Margaret's youngest daughter (Elizabeth).  She told me her grandfather was William and her grandmother was Margaret Noble.  She must be confused with her grandfather's name.  She also told me that the name McBeth is a family name but I haven't found a connection to that yet.

I'm sure one of my grandmother's siblings must have their mother's birth certificate if not I will order it as this will tell me the correct information.

Thanks

You've done a lot of work, thank you.  I was wondering if McBeth was Margaret Noble's mother's maiden name, but I can't find anything yet.

Looking through my notes, I did look into George and Margaret King in 1841 census,  but wasn't sure if this connection was correct.  Looking at your findings along with my notes (done about 2 years ago), I think this is the right family.

The Noble's seem to be more difficult to find, but I'm sure a bit more digging will uncover something I can follow.

Thanks again for your help.
