Hi Sharron,

this is good - i think it confirms what you already thought about the marriage of Siberina Draper and Joseph Smith. And if i am not confused it looks like Siberina's parents are definitley Frederick Draper (as per the marriage cert) possibly maybe her mother was a Humphrey.
Does this mean the manuscript document at the Liverpool university is flawed?

Happy hunting

Hi Jim

I wouldn't call the documents at Liverpool 'flawed'. The biographical notes about Gypsy families held there were mainly collected in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with information/oral history collected directly from Gypsies. But if folk were looking back several generations to family members that they didn't know personally but only through stories they'd heard, it's not surprising that their memories were sometimes hazy or inaccurate.

In my experience, the Liverpool papers (and associated articles in the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society Journal) are a great starting point but events/dates/names/partnerships should always be cross-checked using original historic documents.

Best wishes

Hi Tiggi

Thanks for this info. I was aware of the existence of this marriage but have never seen the full details before.

I haven't been able to trace a baptism for this Aquila Draper so far. However, I do have a reference to a Solomon Draper who had a wife named Artuly or Arculah (maiden name Stanley) and perhaps 'Aquila' is a form of this name and represents a family connection.

This Solomon tended to travel in Hampshire, Berkshire  and Oxfordshire. He was transported to America in 1740 with his brother Valentine and so is unlikely to be the father of Aquila if we count on the idea that she was probably around 21 when she married in 1769.

Best wishes

Thanks for that....... well I think Emanuell was an older brother to Edward Buckland  b 1755 who it says married Paradice Lee  or Boswell ( not sure of her surname)
Edward was the one who was hanged in 1821 aged 66 for murder of Judy Pearce in Sailsbury Assizes

They had a son Edward who married Lucy Boswell in 1815 Knowle
Who may have briefly been with Major Boswell
Major Boswell c.1780 Bloxham Ox, married briefly one Lucy Boswell, 15.01.1798 Breedon On The Hill Leic.

Edward & lucy  they had 2 daughters who married Welsh Lee brothers Sampson & Eiljah..... could be kin to Paradice

What confuses me with this family is there is possible a another Edward b 1755 who wife was Diana Smith and that is my line ......or am wondering if its same man  did he have 2 wives 1st Diana then Paradice ?

funnily we have link to Stanley family and America so mentioning about earlier link with Solomon Draper etc could be something.......

I tear my hair out over this lots lolol any help would be gratefully recieved

Oh just to add of course we also have Smith sdie think its through Wisdom Smith & Elizabeth Gentle and of course there is mention he may have had a wife Harriet Buckland ?

Help !!
