Ancestry used to have complete BMDs-these now seem to have disappeared from the site. Or is it just me?

Hi Monique
See http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx
There are two Birth index collections and three Marriage and Death index collections and it is important that you search the right one to find the person that you’re looking for

England & Wales, Birth Index: 1916-2005

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915

But surely on this page:-

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

in the top box there used to be a choice of Births, Marriages and Deaths?  Now there are only the Ms & Ds!   ???  Does this mean that the FreeBMD Births are now complete?

It seems as though the subscription goes up and the contents comes down.  Now the Incoming Passenger lists are unavailable on the UK subscription.

They have replaced the unindexed  births 1837-1983 with the fully indexed births 1916-2005.  For births before 1916, use Freebdm on ancestry or on the free bdm site. You no longer have to search by quarter to find births. Check the Rootschat threads on this board - there is lots of discussion.

You will find what you want in one of Stan's links

Trish

Edit I can still get the incoming passenger lists with my Australian subscription - usually has less England than the UK subscription  ???

The complete marriages are still there - you have to search by quarter, exactly as it was, only births have changed

many thanks for the link-they no longer come up on my homepage, but I can access from the link. I wonder how long before they do the same for marriages and deaths?

Thank you for your explanation Trish, I must have missed that discussion.  I now see they have altered the heading to 1837 & onwards.

I'm still annoyed about the Incoming Passenger lists though.  Good job I did a thorough search when they were still included.
