Tracing a burial
« on: Sunday 15 February 09 09:17 GMT (UK) »
How do I find out for certain if someone has been buried where I have been told they are.  I looked in the Churchyard (it didn't take long), graves are obviously not marked.

firstly who controls the graveyard. If its the local council then they may have a map of who is buried where. If it is private you will do the same again they may have a map.

The only maps councils have are grave maps for each plot they were originally for the grave diggers, not who is buried in them. You have to lookup the burial in that cemetery on film first.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. It is a small parish church, who would keep the burial records?

Sadie.

I don't know if all counties F.H S, have Monumental inscriptions books for the local churchyards or not,In the Library or on film. Sorry i forgot you mentioned the churchyard.I think the best thing to do would be to write to the church secretary or who ever and ask them where the grave is.I did it once because i found an orbit but no mention of the church. They did ask for moneyŁ15 :o but that was in surrey, then they would send the info. They sent the info anyway ;D 8) without my money ;)
