Please can anyone tell me if there are any lists available which list the people transported to Australia in the 1700 - 1800's. Joan D'Arcy

The first convicts arrived in Australia  in 1788. .... known as the First Fleeters.
Maybe googling that terms will produce a website...
There will be others who answer you who will know more about this and perhaps can give you a link if needs be.

I think this site is a good guide:
http://www.convictcentral.com/
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

National Archives of Aust. doesn't have any records relating to convicts - they are all with state records offices (NSW, Tas and WA).

THere are plenty of links on the Australian Resources board:

Thanks for the offer Webby, the surname I am looking for is Shadwell, I am afraid I have no definite date.   note your interests are in the county of Sussex which is where my Shadwells originated from. regards Joan

Hi Joan

I have found this website useful in my search

http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/info/fh/convicts

there are two 'hits' for the name Shadwell, not sure if they are your ancestors.

Kind regards
Lil Fox  :)
