Dear Jenn,
Your family sampler is a delight......wouldn't it be wonderful to have our children taught these skills of sewing, precision, artistic layout, colour and expressing an individual flair........most would not know that you could sew by hand! (forgive me for sounding old....my little brother turns 50 tomorrow!!!!!)

Ruskie,
I will let the thread know what the conservator says.

Cheers
Susie ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ah  true....  mine  were....  I  crossstich a lot and used to do fancywork  but  not a lot of use for it nowdays.

I understand what you are saying though adying art.  We went to school in the 50's  (1950's that is)  were were taught  hand embroidery but  that was  then  totally different nowdays and it is a shame not anymore.

Dear Jenn,
My daughter who is 28 is a keen quilter and cross stitcher, whereas my step daughters (13 and 11) where quite shocked when i got out the sewing machine a couple of years ago...........they had never seen one up close before......and hand sewing......not in their vocab.........just buy new stuff from the chain stores.

Cheers
Susie (I am now over feeling old as my little brother turns 50)  ;D

I went to see the conservator today and am very excited as she will clean and repair Great grandfather Herbert's pinafore and will box it for me as well.

.....I could have spent all day with her marvelling over her equipment and tricks of the trade.......fascinating stuff. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I will post a photo of the finished work in a couple of weeks.

Cheers
