Dear Prue and Ruskie,

Many thanks.........as it is the only thing we have from this side of the family (no photos etc), it is fairly precious and I will make sure it is "conserved" for future generations.

I will make sure it is safe from moths and silverfish  ;D ;D ;D......and the corrosive salt air where I live.

Cheers

 (a very happy) Susie

Dear Jenn,
I am working off when my great grandfather was born, so I would say 1860, and apart from the safety pin and a couple of stains it is in great condition.

Cheers

Susie (who still is smiling with delight)

Thanks for posting the pic Susie. It does look to be in great condition. What are you thinking of doing with it? I'd be tempted to frame it but conservation-wise this is probably not the best thing to do.

I just LOVE anything old. There's nothing like it, and all the more special if it's a family piece.

I have an 1852 dated sampler framed and in my (very dark ;)) hall. It's not in great condition and not terribly ornate, neither is is even from my family (OH's great grandfather's sister made it when she was 11) - but still special.

I have nothing "textiley" from my family.  ;D

Dear Ruskie,
I would like to have it framed/boxed for my father's 80th birthday, but I will take the advice of the conservator. I met some of my father's cousins for the first time yesterday, and one of them fished it out of her handbag, and said that this belonged with my side of the family.......such a generous gift. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cheers

That's very pretty Jenn. I notice a few letters missing  ;) but lovely bright colours. I think it's easy to lose those little threads in the letters. When my OH had his reframed I think we lost some "parts" of a letter or two.

Let us know what the conservator says Susie.  :D
