Stephen McVay/Mary McFarlane
« on: Monday 16 February 09 16:34 GMT (UK) »
hi
Could anyone help us find the marriage of Stephen McVay to Mary McFarlane probably in the 1840s.We think the marriage may have taken place in Cork and there was a Mary born c1850 before the family moved to England.Any help will be appreciated.

the FamilySearch Irish civil record index includes non-Catholic marriage from 1845 so they could be included in that (see : http://www.rootschat.com/links/05ee/). If you find a match you can order a research cert from the GRO ( see www.groireland.ie )

Full registration started in 1864.

To locate marriages before Civil registration started you would need to know the parish. Parts of Co. Cork are included in the pay site of the Irish Family History Foundation at www.irish-roots.ie.

hi Shane
thanks for your reply. We have tried the links you mention and the IGI and there is no sign of them anywhere. We don't know the parish or even if it took place in Cork ! We only have a family story to go by and a birth cert of the first child born in England where Stephen is stated as the father.
thanks
