I really enjoyed this episode, the exploration of the early 20th century exploits of his parents was a refreshing change, and you cannot help but marvel at the brass neck and single mindedness of the early missionaries in taking christianity to the Chinese  :o ::)

I suppose it picked up towards the end.

Even so, lets hope for a better episode next week...

I found the episode interesting and engaging but not classic WDYTYA. I would have preferred more documentary evidence, going further back into his tree, and less speculating about his parents' feelings.

Disappointed - wanted to know something about the German grandparents.

What a boring episode. Too much speculating and not enough documents!
This series so far has been a bit hit and miss, the only one I really enjoyed was Fiona Bruce.
Lets hope the last two episodes are more inspiring.

If I'd known the first half hour would be exploring his father's mental illness I could have gone off and done something else!

His G-Grandparents' (have I calculated that right? Sorry, red wine is kicking in!) adventures in China was quite interesting - pity he didn't find any memorial stone to the the two weans left there.

All in all - I find this series quite a dissappointment! They seem to major just on one particular family member!

I'm hopeful Zoe Wanamaker will be more interesting next week!  :(

I just found found the missionary grandfather on the 1891 census. RG 12/ 749/ 123/ 50.
I'm interested to see that he was born in Antigua, West Indies about 1840.
That would have been another interesting line of enquiry.

Sorry, but it was just soooo borin ! :-\

I think the episode on Boris was fantastic but since then they have been totally, uninspiring and boring.  I eagerly await these programmes, but this week and last week, I actually fell asleep during the programme  :o . Are they running out of stars with interesting family histories? if so why not look to the ordinary man, I am sure there must be a few(!) with more interesting trees out there.
