Hi Alan,

I had a look for the baptism of a Charles Ward c1841 in Chelmsford but nothing there.  I only saw one entry for the name Ward -

2 Dec 1838 Jane d/o Joseph & Elizabeth Ward, Saracens Head, publican.

  I did a search of what I have available, and there is a Charles, aged 2 in Great Baddow 1841 census. Where did you get your initial info from?

thanks for your post. kev.Infact it was just yesterday that i found charles in the 1851 census at gt baddow with parents joseph and emma.Charles was 10,I also looked at the 1841 and found him aged 2
