« on: Wednesday 18 February 09 14:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am looking for any information on Sleight and Hollingsworth family.
George Sleight who was a road worker for the council born around 1877 and married Lilly Hollingsworth in 1915 at Basford, Nottingham.
Lily as born Caistor area Lincolnshire around 1895 and died of TB in 1943. We think they had about 15 children.
Dorothy the youngest, born 1934 from Grimsby (My Mum).
Doreen  1933     Caistor,
Ernest      1930     Caistor,
Joyce     1928   Caistor
Joseph William 1926 Caistor who married Ivy,
Annie     1925    Caistor
Harry     1923    Caistor who married a Kathleen May Madden.
George     1920  Sleaford,
May       1919  Sleaford,
These names we are not sure of being siblings of Dorothy sleight.
Mary, Katherine, Barbara, Tom, Timothy, John.

Lily’s father is Thomas Hollingsworth
Georges father is Joseph Sleight, mother Mary Ann Gooding
Joseph father William Sleight. (Both George & William’s name is spelt Slight in the census.
We are looking for most of the names above.

Can anyone help

Stringbean.  :)
Names I am researching
Sleight, Hollingsworth, Smith, Marshall, Lowery, Hudston, Smedley, Keal, Avery, Glenn,

Hi Stringbean,
Do you by any chance have access to the death indexes on ancestry, of one of the other sites?

Hi Stringbean,
It might be possible to try to locate the areas that your mum's brothers and sisters went to live - so that you have a better idea of where to concentrate your searches.
Is your mum hoping to find any remaining family?
Paulene :)

Hi Dave & Willow 154

Thank you for your help,   my input on your findings.

Florence M      Horncastle 1916  (Don’t know if there on my tree as yet) Mum has named a Mary
Jack                  Horncastle 1917  (Don’t know if there on my tree as yet) Mum has named a John
May                  Sleaford   1919    (Yes they are on our tree but we have not found them yet)
George              Sleaford   1920   (Yes they are on our tree but we have not found them yet)

Harry                 Caistor    1923    (found his son last month, we are now in contact)
Dorothy             Caistor    1924   (possible, there is an infant death registered 1 year later)
Annie                 Caistor    1925    (Yes they are on our tree but we have not found them yet)
Joseph W          Caistor    1926     (My  uncle, now deceased, we are in contact with the rest of the family.)

Joyce                 Caistor    1928     (Yes they are on our tree but we have not found them yet)
Ernest                Caistor    1930     (Yes they are on our tree but we have not found them yet)
Doreen               Caistor    1933     (Aunty Doreen, deceased, we are in contact with the rest of the family)
Dorothy             Grimsby   1934    my mum (I could not find this on BDM site )

I know parents have lived in Basford Nottingham, Beeston, Caistor, Sleaford, & Gainsborough.

I am just learning how to search at the moment and because I'm collecting information in I'm waiting to log into the paying sites, until I have more info.

I do not have access to the death indexes on ancestry.

It would be nice if we could find our missing relatives that we lost contact with as mum was brought up in children’s home from the age of 7. The few siblings we have known have passed away now; as you can se from the list above we have only known 3 and found 1 (1st break through).

We think George Sleight their father was married before, in 1915 George was 38yrs old and his wife lily Hollingsworth was 20yrs old.

Stringbean.  :)
Names I am researching
Sleight, Hollingsworth, Smith, Marshall, Lowery, Hudston, Smedley, Keal, Avery, Glenn,
Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire.

Hi Stringbean,
Does it give any information on the marriage certificate about George Sleight's father, please?
Paulene :)
P.S. Ask if you need any specific BMD look-ups :)

Hi Pauline
On the marriage certificate it says as follows 24/12/1915 Basford, Nottingham.

George Sleight aged 38 Bachelor, tractor engine driver and lives at Beeston.
His father Joseph Sleight, farm labourer. so we say George was born around 1877.

lily Hollingsworth aged 20 spinster, lived at Beeston.
Her father Thomas Hollingsworth labourer. so we say Lily was born around 1895.

We know Joseph Sleight was married to Mary Ann Gooding, 25/7/1872 Willoughby Lincoln. Joseph Sleight Father we think is William Sleight.

We also think that Mary Ann Gooding was christened 22/12/1851, Willoughby with Sloothby, Lincoln

This is all the information we have at the moment.

 Stringbean.  :)
