1841, 1851 Census FLOY

My first time, so hope I have understood the etiquette correctly!

Could someone please look up the surname FLOY for Cheshire please.  Not a common name, so probably not many.

However, if this too much, particularly looking for parents of James FLOY born 1837, Buglawton.  Married Ellen GOODWIN (b.1844, Astbury) date unknown.

               Welcome to rootschat,yes you have got it right,no problems.

             As to your Floy family, it would seem that James was born Fly not Floy ! just when he added the "o" I do not know but certainly within a short time of marrying. His father was a John Fly and mother Catherine ?? born Ireland,it would seem that around 1850 the family were in Derby,so I cannot give you the 1851.

Thank you so much for this.

I had seen the family as FLY in the 1891 census, and assumed the enumerator had misheard.  Had not yet got around to checking FLY elsewhere.

The information you have provided is very interesting - I shall look more closely later.  Particularly interested that John came from Ireland - my G-G Grandfather married an Irish lass (Mary Skelly), so I guess there was still a connection even then.
