So - do you know of any sisters of Mr Howsego who may have married Mr Freshney? How old was Mr H when he died in 1923? Have you got him on censuses as a child with any siblings?

Alternatively, what do you know of Mr Howsego's wife, if he had one? Was she nee Freshney, in which case Mr A Freshney could be her brother.

this will need to be taken step by step and I am sure you will find the link

On freebmd there are two births with surname Freshney and mother's maiden name "Housego" - one in 1915, and one in 1920 in West Ham.

An Alfred W. Freshney married Winifred F. Housego in Mar 1914 in Mile End.
This may be the Winifred Florence Housego who was born in Mile End in 1891.
Alfred's full name might be Alfred William Freshney, born in Stepney in 1888.

ETA: In 1881 there's a Frederick Housego b. 1876 in Stepney living with parents Thomas and Ann and a whole bundle of kids.
By 1901 I think they might be in West Ham - http://www.1901censusonline.com/ has them as Housigs with Ann (now 45, having shaved a couple years off), and a daughter Winifred, 9, among others (Henry, 25, also seen in 1881 census, Walter, 15, Jessie, 18, Lilian, 17, Jane, 12).

Thank you both for the information

Frederick was 49 when he died in December 1923.  Unfortunately, throughout his life I have not been able to pin him down on any census' and all I really know about him is that his father was George Howsego (I got this information from Frederick and Emily's marriage certificate).

As for Emily she was nee Morris but I believe she had a brother by the name of Arthur or Alfred but he too was a Morris.

http://www.1911census.co.uk/ shows a Frederick Housego in West Ham with mother Ann and sister Winifred, etc.

There's also an Emily Howsego and a number of children in West Ham but no husband with them. If they both appear married in this census then perhaps Frederick was just visiting his family?

I don't think the Frederick Housego on the 1911 census is the correct man.  The head of the house is Annie, and if you go back to the 1891 census the same family are on there but the head of the house is Thomas Housego, wife Annie.  Whereas my Frederick's dad was called George :(

However mistakes are made on marriage certificates and people have names they were given and those that they were known by, or used their second name and not their first etc. so it is important to know as much information about Frederick's father as possible which was why I asked the previous question

'What was George Howsego's occupation on Frederick's marriage certificate?'

and to add to that

What was Frederick's address on his marriage?
Who were the witnesses?
