Hi

George's occupation was listed as a Labourer, as was Frederick.  Frederick was listed as living at 76 Burnham Street and Emily Morris was living at 10 Granville Road.  The witnesses were Phillip Tucker and Emily Tucker.

Thank you

It doesn't help since Thomas was a plumber but labourer is a catch all term.

The difficultly is that the only Freshney/Housego marriage leads you straight back to the same family because it is the only one with a Winfired and there is only one Winifred.

Both Housego and Freshney are very rare surnames

Housego according to to National Statistics has only about 330 people with the surname today in this country. Freshney is much rarer with only 149.

http://www.taliesin-arlein.net/names/search.php

So the combination of the two in the West Ham area is compelling.

Marriages Mar 1914
Freshney  Alfred W  Housego  Mile End  1c 458
Housego  Winifred F  Freshney  Mile End  1c 458

Births Dec 1891
Housego  Winifred Florence    Mile End  1c 486

Which then takes you onto the two Freshney birth registrations with the mother's maiden name of Housego in 1915 in Mile End and in 1920 in West Ham.

Frederick is in West Ham with Winifred on the 1911 census - have you checked it to see whether he gives his status as married?

Regards

Valda

I know, that is what I am beginning to think, there really must be a link here somewhere!!

On the 1911 census, Emily Howsego was living with John Litson, but had all of her and Fredericks children with her.  She said she was a widow (which was a lie since Frederick did not die until December 1923).

However there is a Frederick living with Annie Housego, he is 36 which makes the age about right but he said he was single.  Beings as he was no longer with Emily, maybe he just decided to say he was single, his occupation was listed as service layer.  Winifred was also on there and so was Jane and Walter.

Emily then remarries to John in 1923.  ::)

I simply cannot seem to find them in 1901, even though they should be in the West Ham area with baby Arthur. How frustrating - that's the one we need to tie it all together, really.

Yes she does, but they marry at the start of the year, whereas Frederick doesn't die until Dec.  Which means they either divorced or she married illegally! :)

There's no sign of any divorce papers for surnames Housego or Howsego in the National Archives' J77 series at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp
