Hello Thalliwell,

The baptism of William HALLAWEL appears on Freereg at Gresford. He was baptised on 15 May1785, son of Joseph HALLAWEL of Allington.

There were siblings baptised at Gresford as follows:

25/12/1775 Joseph, son of Joseph HALLAWEL of Allington.
13/06/1779 John, son of Jos HALLAWEL of Allington.

There were other couples by the name of HALLAWEL baptising children in Gresford at that time. It would be an idea to have a search using soundex.

I tried to find the marriage again using soundex but no success.

Have you found Genuki? See http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/DEN/Rossett/

Jo.

Thanks for the information.
I did receive some of this info from another rootschatter.
There appears no marriage of william Halliwell to ann ? anywhere in gresford or denbingshire.
That is why I considered the one in cheshire that was only 8 miles away.

Plus there is evidence that a Samuel Dodd owned a plot..with a William Halliwell.

So I am about 80% certain now that it was my william holywell (halliwell) who married  Ann Dodd at St Mary's-on-the hill Chester.......

Gresford PRs 1773 - 1811
There are only two Ann Dodds.
Baptisms
1784 Sept 5. Ann Dodd d/o John. COXLANE.
1801 April 5 Ann Dodd, s/o John, Marford.

I looked back to 1773 and there is no other mention of Coxlane.

There is no marriage in Gresford  for John Dodd  that seems to fit
The only one is 1785 Apr 9. Banns
John Dodd, Wrexham and Ann Lloyd otp.
Wittnesses Hugh Hughes and Edward Evans.

I don`t think this is the right one, all the illegitimate baptisims in Gresford were clearly recorded, as base, and giving both parents names.
There is no marriage of a John Dodd in Wrexham.

There was a Joseph Catheral baptised 1786 Nov 12. Son of Randle ,  abode Allington.
The only other mention of that name is 1806 June 8, John Williams
( Catheral) base son of Joseph Catheral and Christian Williams.

We know for sure that on the Tithe maps for that area, a  Samuel Dodd and William Halliwell were joint  occupiers of a plot on Coxlane.

The problem is even though the names all fit in,  there is no concrete evidence  as yet to prove it all.

St Marys on the Hill is in Genuki.

Thanks once again for all your research and assistance.
Yes there is no 100% evidence yet...
I'm sure that there must be something somewhere, but where...?

Thanks :)

I found an interesting Burial Record for a John Dodd in Gresford in 1809

http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Burials&RecordID=5687287

Seems like he was Killed on the Wrexham Road by a timber carriage.

Wonder if it was the same one and if this was reported somewhere else ?

Also, the Tithe maps that you refer to, are they online or at a library ?

Thanks
