Terry,

The badge doesnt look like Royal engineers.

Miles Platting. Well, its not a Manchester Regiment badge, nor is it a Lancashire Fusiliers.

Looking at the fireplace behind them, its a UK photo, so my only guess is going to be a local or work friend drafted at a similar time.

Sorry, not the most helpful answer.

Theres nothing on the back of the photo is there.......

Loyal North Lancs Regiment !

Which was also your grandads regiment in WW1?

Shape of the badge is right, its a local regt. to Miles Platting, and I reckon that photo was taken in one of the houses cleared in the 1950's.

Can't help with a name, but the Queens Lancs Regt in Preston may be able to help with regimental photo's.

Good luck.

Pete.

Hi there Pete

Think Terry A  was hoping somebody would 'claim'  his

fathers mate ....  :(

They were Prisoners of War in Stalag V111B  together on

another photo and they were Sappers which is the Royal

Engineers ....  or were there Sappers in other

regiments  ???

Regards

Genie  :)

I'dve thought sappers would be Royal Engineers, not convinced thats what the guy in the photo is though, the cap badge is the wrong shape. Or at least when the photo was taken - it must have been before they were in V111B, shame he hasnt posted all the photo's on this thread.

Cheers

Pete.

Hi Pete and Geniemoon, I only wanted to see if anyone knew the guy on the left of my dad it doesn't matter about his regiment... my dad was a sapper in the Royal Engineers, and he was taken prisoner at Dunkirk and taken to Stalag 8b at Lamsdorf in Poland for the rest of the war...only just found out that the photo was taken at the camp...thanks Terry A.

Hi Terry,,,my grandad was in the R.E  in ww2,,,he was from manchester....would be interested to know if you knew what troop your father was in ?  only because i wondered,,if you joined the R.E. and you were from Manchester,,,would you have been in the same troop,or regiment ??  my grandad was also in the B.E.F  but was lucky enough to be evacuated from Dunkirk.I have been trying to follow my grandads career in the war,,and have a rough idea where and when he served. Ialso have a re-union list of names of ex members of his company/troop.Would love to hear from someone whos father or grandfather was on that list,,,,,a long shot i know,,,,but you never know !!!   regards,,,Mike.
