Holmes Family Tree - Felstead & Dunmow, Essex

Hi All
My Holmes family come from Felstead and Dunmow, Essex.  However, there appear to be some census info missing and also i want to go back further too.  Having trouble with David Holmes 1843 and his parents William and Sarah.  Can anybody help?

One thing that you need to know is that the 1851 census for the whole of the Dunmow Registration District is missing!

Do you have the family in the 1861 census and have you traced a marriage for David's parents?

David Holmes married Sarah Ann Bental in Dunmow Q4 1867 Vol: 4a, Page 737

Do you have a birth certificate for David Holmes ?  This should give his mother's maiden name.  According to the IGI, there was a marriage between a William Holmes and a Sarah Archer in Great Waltham on 21 July 1812, but this is a submitted record, which is not totally reliable.

In 1861 he is living in Felsted with his widowed mother Sarah and his siblings.  His mother aged 51 gives her PoB as Yeldham.

Will post full details if you do not have them.

Nick - I think the marriage you found is for the David born 1843.

1812 would be a bit early to fit in with the family in 1841.  Think we need a marriage about 1830 but unfortunately the IGI is not good for Essex.

Thanks for your replies - it's been really helpful.
I will have a good old study of this shortly - thanks for clarifying that 1851 is missing for Dunmow Barbara - that explains a lot of frustrated searching!!!
