As far as I can work out, on freebmd there are no Griffiths/Gwendoline marriages, nor are there any Gwendoline Griffiths births between 1841 and 1873.

Will try name variants now.

Well this is a bit of a long shot.

The marriage cert suggests he is illegitimate.

In 1891 there is a household with a Joseph Lewis and wife Gwenllian plus son Joseph D lewis aged 1.

There is this marriage

Sep 1890
Anthony  John    Swansea  11a 1271
Griffiths  Gwenllian     Swansea  11a 1271
LEWIS  Joseph     Swansea  11a 1271

Richards  William Henry     Swansea  11a 1271
Thomas  Mary Hannah     Swansea  11a 1271

So, maybe Joseph was registered under mother's maiden name and then mum married?

Plenty of Gwens, Gwenllians and Gwennys, but the first Gwendoline Griffiths is born in 1875.

Think that we need Joseph's birth certificate!

Good idea Barbara,

There are no Joseph D Lewis' born in Swansea between 1888 and 1891.  There are 3 just Josephs and 3 Joseph H (Henry, Hughes and Harold)

In 1901 the same family group names Joseph as Joseph Daniel Lewis aged 12 b Swansea.

I think this may be the right Joseph Daniel but the birth certificate is really needed in this case.
