Look-up Please. Allen death Alberta-COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 21 February 09 21:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Could anyone please help me with a look-up for the death of my aunt. Her name was Florence Annie Allen nee Johnston born 15 August 1907 in Laindon,Essex,England. Following her marriage to Alfred Alexander Allen in 1945 they went to Canada. I am not sure if they emigrated or if Alfred returned as on the marriage certificate his profession was listed as Private Canadian Forestry Corps (engineer). I am afraid my details are rather sketchy from then on. I know they lived in Alberta near to Calgary but have no definate place name.  Date of death is also not known. Sorry to be so vague but I hope that someone will be able to find her for me.

Hi Maurine,
There is a Florence A. Allen buried in the Mountainview Cemetery in Calgary Alberta, her dates are 1907-1999. There are 3 Alfred Allens', 2 in Mountainview, one is Alfred Allen 1892-1970, the other is Alfred A. Allen 1904-1999. The other is in Queens Park Cemetery Calgary, Alfred Charles Allen 1899-1993. Thats about all the help I can be to you. You may be able to find out more from the Alberta Family Histories Society or from a volunteer at Random Acts of Genealogical Kindnesses

Lisa

ps: there are 2 other Florence Allens also; Florence May died 1982 buried in Queens Park Cemetery & Florence 1929-  in Mountainview (I'm not too sure this last one has past away yet)

Hi Lisa

Many thanks for your quick reply. I believe that you have found the correct Allens. Florence's age is right and Alfred was three years older on their marriage certificate so his age correct also.  It is nice to be able to complete their records in my family tree. Now I will have to try to find their only daughter ( my cousin) but I know I can't do that here. I know her name and roughly her age.  Could you or anyone help with where to start the search?
Once again thank you for your help this.

Regards from Maurine

Hi Maurine

Does the address 673 High Road,Seven Kings Ilford c 1946 ring any bells?

Or a Mrs J A Allen Calgary as Florence's mother in law?

If so I have found Florence on FindMyPast passenger list, going out to Canada on 5th *April 1946 as a Private,on the Canadian wives repatriation scheme.

More info if you think it might be her.

Carol

* Amended to read April NOT March

Hi Carol

Yes the information on your post is mine. My grandmother lived at 673 High Road, Seven Kings. I thought that Alfred Allen was probably Canadian as he was in Canadian Forestry Corps. I was present at their wedding but I was only three so don't remember too much! I had searched for Florence on FindMyPast lists but couldn't find her. I am not very good at this searching lark yet.
Any other information will be great thanks.

Okay then, she sailed on 5 April 1946,is listed as Private Florence A Allen.
From Southampton to Canada(doesn't say which port!)on the Aquitania.

She is down as travelling to her mother in law- Mrs J A Allen 2140 Broadview Road,Calgary Alberta.

No sign of hubby though- although if he was still in service, maybe he flew out?

Hi Carol

Many thanks for the information it is good to be able to put "flesh on the bones" so to speak.  I can only remember her visiting England once after she left for Canada, she came with her daughter in the late fifties  but every new piece of information brings back memories.

Thanks again for all the help that everybody gives. It is such a friendly site and I am recommending it to all my friends doing research.

If so they returned in 1960...do you want the info?

Hi Maurine,

I am guessing they are the correct people,as they were due to stay in Essex.  ;D

They returned on 7th July 1960(My gran Flo's 60th birthday LOL)
The ship was the Ivernia and they came from Montreal to Southampton.
Flo's DOB is given as 5th August 1907 and Elsie as 30th June 1947.
They intended to visit for 2 months and were going to Grices,Horndon Hill,Essex.

The FindMyPast passenger list stops at 1960,so I don't think we'll get details of their trip back home.
