Hi everyone,
I'd like to share something personal & private with the great restorers on this site.
In 1980 my mother, father & two of my younger brothers were living in Middleton, Manchester. In the early hours of the 18th May a fire broke out in
a storeroom next to the kitchen. The fire damage was minimal, but the smoke & fumes were lethal. My mother & two brothers got out of the house to safety.
My father wasn't so lucky. His death certificate states: Cause of Death: Asphyxia. Inhalation of smoke.
The photographs you have been restoring were in a bit of a mess due to smoke
damage. I recently took it on myself to clean them up using meths & cotton buds.
I've cleaned up about a third. Is there an easier way?

Oh Terry, how terribly sad.  I didnt want to read and run.

You are doing a fabulous job of the photographs, would never have known about the damage. Sorry no idea how to help, just wanted to send you my best.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for the email. I had a look at the site. Seems a bit pricey. I've got
away with using the old fashioned method so far. I don't think there's any easy way!

Hi Tony,

If you mean the Gardeners on Hollins Lane, Grimshaw Lane or Sandy Lane, the answer is, I don't go in any of 'em any more. I found out a while back that it
makes more sense to get the odd bottle of wine from the local Co-op.
Another reason is it didn't do my brother any good, but that's another story!
